Difference Between Beach and Bush Camping

Difference Between Beach and Bush Camping

Whether it’s at the beach or in the bush, camping is always exciting. The adventure it brings and the bond you create with your camping buddies is priceless.

Getting outside also gives you some well-deserved escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. To make camping trips easy, hassle-free and successful, you need to know a few basics depending on your desired campsite.

Beach Camping

If you’re looking to have a relaxing time, enjoying the sun and feeling the fine white sand between your toes, beach camping is perfect for you. If you want some adventure to go along with that, you can also snorkel in the crystal clear waters or swim against the tides of the blue ocean. End the day with a cold beer and a great BBQ, and you just had epic camping at the beach.

Tip: Do some research before you embark on your beach camping adventure.

Beach Campsite – Camping directly on the beach is not permitted in most places, but there are a few that do allow it. Find out the rules and regulations set in the local area so you would not run into problems when you get there. If in doubt, you can always contact the local council.

Weather/Tide – Monitor the weather report so you can schedule your trip preferably during sunny weather. There’s nothing less disappointing that camping at the beach while it’s pouring out. Pack a tide chart and review it before you head out. It’s best to drive within two hours of low tide because it creeps up pretty quickly.

Bush Camping

There’s nothing quite like getting back to the basics of life and enjoying the Aussie bush. It’s a far cry from deadlines, work pressures and the stress that you may have been experiencing from the fast city life. Bush camping is an excellent activity just to relax, explore, and be one with nature.

If you’re a bush camping rookie, being away from homely comforts may be intimidating and cause uncertainty. It’s refreshing to have spontaneity but in bush camping, doing a little bit of homework will always go a long way. Before trying your bush legs, here are some things you need to know.

Bush Campsite – Fortunately, camping is one of Australians’ most favourite activities, and the country has a lot of ‘bushy’ areas. Thus, there is no shortage of campsites for bush camping enthusiasts. However, you still have to research for locations where you can do it. Free or wild camping is not allowed in Australia so only go to the designated areas.

Some bush campsites require pre-booking, and a fee and some are free on a first come first served basis. Check on the facilities available. Some campgrounds have tables, benches fire pits, and even a toilet.

Vehicle – A vehicle hiccup on route to these destinations can be such a hassle and a tad frustrating, even dangerous. So, before you go on these trips, make sure you do a thorough check of your caravan, RV or 4WD. You can take it in for professional maintenance if necessary. Always consider the location you choose for your camping adventure and the kind of road that you will pass through.
